Flashlight Hide-and-Seek!
When you’re stuck inside (please, winter, stay away!) or just need some relief from the heat, pull out a flashlight!
🔦 Flashlights create fun for ALL ages and can keep your little one busy, while also building language skills!
WIN-WIN 🙌🏽
Flashlight fun with infants & babies:
Cuddle together, turn the lights low, and shine the light on different objects around the room! As you shine the light on an object, describe what you see! “Ball! Book! Cow!”
Playing with toddlers:
With toddlers, you can create fun flashlight learning experiences:
Have your toddler shine the light on an object, and you say what it is, then you take a turn! “Oooooh! Car!” “I see a BOOK!”
Tell your little one what you want them to find, “Shine the light on a TRUCK!”
Preschoolers:
For preschoolers, you can add even more steps or clues:
Have your child find items based on category or characteristic: “Find three animals!” “Find two red toys!”
”Can you find me a round, soft toy?”
Try using sequencing concepts, such as, ”First find a truck, then find a dinosaur!”
School-aged kids:
For school-age kids, you can hide a favorite item and then give clues:
”Your bear is in a place where we get our morning snacks!”
”Find your dinosaur in the room where mommy brushes her teeth!”
It is also fun to let your child take the lead! They can spend some time hiding objects and then give you the flashlight along with some clues!
Also, quiet reading time with flashlights (in a room, fort, tent, or wherever) is a fun way to do something familiar, while relaxing!
Need some quiet time or a distraction? Simply hide some favorite toys and have your children find them with the flashlights! They can also hide the toys for you and buy you a few minutes of quiet time 😉
